Overfishing and Illegal Possession of Excess Catch
Description: It is unlawful for any individual to be in possession of more than 20 fish above the legal personal limit, as defined by local wildlife and fishing regulations.
Legal Limit: Individuals are permitted to possess up to 20 fish for personal use. Possession exceeding this amount is considered overfishing.
Charges:
Misdemeanor: Possession of 21–60 fish above the legal limit
Fine: $500
Jail Time: Up to 15 months
Felony: Possession of over 60 fish above the legal limit
Fine: $1,000
Jail Time: Up to 30 months
Additional Notes:
All fish in excess of the legal limit are subject to immediate seizure and disposal by Wildlife Officers or Law Enforcement.
Repeat offenders may face license suspension or permanent fishing bans.
This law applies to both fresh and saltwater fishing, regardless of bait or location.
